- Your GPS location never leaves your phone. It is used only to measure your speed.
- No account, no sign-in, no analytics SDK. Trips are stored only on your phone.
- Ads appear only on the Trips and Settings screens, never while you drive. They are served by Google AdMob, which collects some data as described below.
Data SpeedTick processes on your phone
Precise location
With your permission, SpeedTick reads your phone's GPS while the app is open to calculate your speed, detect when a trip starts and ends, and draw the trip's speed chart. Location is processed on your device only. It is not sent to us, to Google AdMob, or to anyone else, and the app does not access location in the background.
Trips and settings
Trip summaries (start and end time, duration, maximum and average speed, time over your limit and a speed chart) and your settings are stored in the app's private storage on your phone. Trips do not include map coordinates. You can delete one trip, or all trips in Settings → Data. Uninstalling the app deletes everything.
Voice alerts
If you turn on voice alerts, SpeedTick uses your phone's text-to-speech engine to say the speed limit.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
SpeedTick shows a banner ad at the bottom of the Trips, Trip summary and Settings screens. Ads are provided by Google AdMob. To serve, measure and protect ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK automatically collects and shares with Google:
- your device's IP address (which may be used to estimate your general location);
- app interactions such as app launches, taps and ad views;
- diagnostic information such as app launch time, hang rate and energy use;
- device identifiers such as the Android advertising ID and app set ID.
This data is encrypted in transit. It is used for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention. SpeedTick does not pass your GPS location to AdMob. Learn how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Your choices: in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland you are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change it any time in Settings → Ad privacy choices. Anywhere, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
Children
SpeedTick is intended for drivers and is not directed to children under 13.
Your rights
Because we don't collect personal data on our own servers, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete: your data is on your phone and under your control. For data collected by Google AdMob, see Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
